Dr Paul Cummins Speaks at the 2022 Future in Pharmaceuticals Event

July 22, 2022

SeaChange Managing Director, Dr Paul Cummins, was delighted to share his thoughts on Leading Sustainable Safety Culture Transformation at the Future in Pharmaceuticals event which took place in the historic Croke Park on July 6th.

Paul was invited to speak alongside a panel of experts including Cormac McCarthy (SEAI), Ronan Coffey (Boston Scientific) and Mark Yeeles (Schneider Electric).

Paul’s speaking engagement began with the fact that Pharmaceutical organisations often spearhead safety investment and performance; however, despite the significant investment many Pharmaceutical companies make in health and safety, they still experience unsafe behaviours, related near misses and incidents in the workplace.

Paul noted that often Pharmaceutical organisations hit a stumbling block in their safety performance because they do not know how to grow and sustain their safety culture through a people-based approach.

Paul then introduced the SeaChange Safety Culture Growth Model© and outlined the 5 Phases of growth for organisations over time. Paul presented how measuring the core attitudes that lead to unsafe behaviours in the workplace is the key starting point to transform safety culture over time in any Pharmaceutical organisation

Paul spoke about SeaChange’s experience in partnering with several leading Pharmaceutical companies to amplify their existing safety systems and support their vision to become a global leader in safety culture performance.

Paul detailed ways in which Pharmaceutical organisations can increase safe behaviours in the workplace through engagement methods, transparent communication, and establishing real local ownership from the ground up.

Paul then concluded with real-world case study examples of best practice behavioural interventions leading to improved safety culture results in the Pharmaceutical domain. Client results from such case studies included:

  • reduced lost time incidents
  • increased morale
  • increased productivity
  • increased frontline leadership performance
  • improved safety culture KPIs

“The Future in Pharmaceuticals event was highly informative and extremely valuable in that it brought together industry leaders to discuss key topics designed to support best practice within the Pharmaceutical domain into the future. I thoroughly enjoyed speaking to high calibre delegates about how to Effectively Lead Sustainable Safety Culture Transformation across all levels of the Pharmaceutical Industry.  I can highly recommend this event for anyone who is keen on both learning about, and leading, positive change within their Pharma organisation.
