Dr Paul Cummins, Managing Director of SeaChange, was honoured by the invitation to speak at the Annual Health & Safety Review Conference 2022. Held on September 15th at UCD, the event boasted an impressive audience of top EHS experts and representatives from blue chip companies across Ireland, excited to attend the first HSR Conference since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
Paul co-presented with Greg Ramsbottom, EHS Lead of Primark Global – a SeaChange client. Together they detailed the importance of Safety Culture within organisations and presented a supporting case study that outlined the innovative auditing service SeaChange provides to Primark. This real-world example illustrated the necessity of implementing Behaviour-Based Safety to achieve improved results in safety performance across a global business.
Paul went on to introduce the SeaChange Safety Culture Growth Model© and outline the five phases of growth for organisations over time, expanding on why auditing safety behaviour (as well as safety systems) in the workplace is a key requirement for organisations to position performance and subsequently grow Safety Culture over time.
To conclude, Paul and Greg provided recent case study evidence in which Primark Global introduced Behaviour-Based Safety to support their strategic safety vision. Primark wanted the ability to accurately audit not just safety compliance but cultural measures such as behaviour, leadership and workforce awareness. Primark engaged the services and Safety Culture expertise of SeaChange to assist in both designing and delivering a new and improved EHS audit within their global group.
Since its launch, this new audit’s ability to measure behaviours, leadership and overall safety culture, in addition to compliance, provides a much more accurate picture of where the business sits within its safety culture roadmap. The new audit fits seamlessly with the organisation’s safety strategy and supports site management in ownership of safety standards across the global business.
